Campania: Elegance from the Benevento region
Walk with us through the Italian regions and discover magnificent wines! This month we let the wines from Campania linger a bit longer, as the selection was particularly large.
-
Benevento region (Taburno massif):
- Coda Di Volpe: Super elegant wine with beautiful minerality and a honey-like structure.
- Fiano: As refined as more well-known variants such as Fiano D’Avellino.
- 100% Aglianico Rosato: A rosé with body, versatile for various dishes.
-
Fields of Flegrei:
- PiediRosso in Falanghina: Unique wines that you must not miss.
-
Calabria:
- Great red wines made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio.
Fattoria La Rivolta: A winery with a reputation
What else can be said about Fattoria La Rivolta? This winery has a very large reputation and works with heart and soul on wines that best showcase the region Benevento. Terroir is the key word here.
- Coda di Volpe: A must-try gem with a silky smooth mouthfeel.
- Greco and Fiano: These wines are on par with the famous Greco di Tufo and Fiano D’Avellino.
- 100% Aglianico Rosato: Perfect for pizza, caprese salad, or grilled salsiccia.
- Simbiosi: A blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso with a perfect balance, ideal with lamb or Bistecca Fiorentina.
Contrada Salandra: Unique wines from Campi Di Flegrei
Contrada Salandra is a small winery located in Campi Di Flegrei, specifically in Pozzuoli on the coast of Cuma. They produce only two wines, but they are of exceptional quality:
-
Falanghina Campi Di Flegrei (white wine):
Giuseppe Fortunato knows better than anyone how to turn the Falanghina grape into a gem. The mineral undertone and floral aromas are reminiscent of a Riesling, and the wine is distinctly elegant. Pair with pasta vongole, calamari, or Caprese di Mare. -
Piedirosso Campi Di Flegrei (red wine):
This wine has juicy flavors of red berries and cherries, with a mineral undertone, soft tannins, and a nice acidity. Perfect with Tagliato manzo, roasted chicken, rabbit, or pasta alla puttanesca.
"Don't forget Calabria!"
The wine estate Tenuta Del Travale from Calabria completely surprised us. Their wines are rich, complex, elegant, and fruity, with great aging potential. We tasted the 2016 and 2021 versions of both the Esmen Tetra and the flagship Eleuteria, and were truly blown away.
These wines are perfect for big moments:
- Combine with venison fillet and red wine sauce, pheasant (at Esmen Tetra), richly filled lamb shank, or a wild boar ragout. Your guests will not complain.
