Podere Sabbioni: Een topproducent om in de gaten te houden

Podere Sabbioni: A top producer to keep an eye on

The domain of Massimo Carletti is only 4 hectares in size and is located 20 km from the coast, on the edge of the nature reserve Abbadia di Chiaravalle di Fiastra, in the municipality of Petriolo.

He only produces wines from indigenous grapes, one of which is the Maceratino Ribona. Today, this grape can only be found in the province of Macerata and on a few hectares in the province of Ancona, where it has found its optimal terroir over the centuries, thanks to the unique combination of geographical location, soil, climate, and age-old traditions. The Maceratino Ribona is also known by various synonyms such as Montecchiese, Greco Maceratino, Verdicchio Marino, and Bianchetta.

Massimo Carletti knows exactly how to turn this grape into a gem. He is considered the best producer of this wine. Only indigenous yeasts are used, and the grapes are carefully placed in the press by hand. The must is decanted and divided over three tanks: two made of concrete and one of wood, where fermentation takes place at low temperature. The wine then rests on its lees for 12 months, after which it is assembled into a cuvée, with preference given to the tanks with the best results.

This is a top producer to keep an eye on. Ian D’Agata does not call him the best producer of this wine for nothing. His wines offer excellent value for money and are also very versatile.
