Cirò DOC Rosso Classico Superiore RISERVA ARIS
Producer: Sergio Arcuri
Location: Cirò Marina, province of Crotone, Calabria
Fourth generation organically certified winemaker, Sergio Arcuri, grew up making traditional Cirò wine together with his father, “Since he was three years old.” Most vineyards in Cirò are located just a few meters above sea level, with some exceptions up to 300–400 meters high. The southern, southeastern, and western slopes of the village of Cirò, as well as the flat coastal strips around Cirò Marina, contain much calcareous material. All six hectares of Arcuri are within this extremely dry Classico zone, cooled by maritime winds, with his highest plots reaching an altitude of 70 meters.
The Arcuri family has been making wine in Cirò since 1880, and with the knowledge passed down from generation to generation, they now know a lot about the interaction between Gaglioppo and the various terroirs. Sergio explains that the most important ingredient for high-quality Gaglioppo is clay, not visual splendor. Clay is found throughout the appellation, and is especially deeply present in the flatter areas by the sea, as a result of the Lipuda river delta.

It is no coincidence that this wine in Calabria is called a “nebbioleggia”. A wine with the finesse of the Langhe region made in Calabria!
