Producer: Le Forci
Le Forci is located in the hills east of Lucca, where the vineyards rest between 250 and 350 meters altitude on clay-rich, stony soils with high biological activity — rich in earthworms, a sign of healthy, airy, and lively soil. The cool, ventilated microclimate, influenced by the nearby Apuan Alps, ensures slow and balanced ripening while preserving natural acidity. Thanks to low yields, manual selection, and minimal intervention vinification, Le Forci’s wines present a precise, refined expression of the Lucca terroir, characterized by purity and elegant structure.
Region: Tuscany - Lucca
Variety: 80% Sangiovese - 10% Canaiolo Nero - 10% Colorino
Vintage: 2022
Vinification: Destemming is done entirely by hand, with maximum respect for the fruit, using special sieves. The grapes are then foot-pressed and ferment spontaneously in small vats without temperature control. Aging: A small portion matures for 10 months in small oak barrels, none of which are new. The rest ages in steel. Bottling: Unfiltered, bottled in October 2023.
Color / bouquet / taste:
Bright ruby red. On the nose, more reserved and restrained than the 2023 Toscana Rosso from Forci, but with deeper and more complex aromas of raspberry, wild herbs, minerality, and forest floor, lifted by hints of white pepper and subtle spiciness. On the palate, sweet ripe fruit, density, and tension, yet still youthful, tight, and precise, with a beautiful fresh lift in the red berry, cherry, and spice aromas. The finish is long, energetic, and layered, with seamless tannins giving the wine an almost hypnotic finale.
A single-vineyard wine, composed of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo Nero, and 10% Colorino, sourced from the oldest vines — the Sangiovese is about 65 years old, compared to the approximately 25-year-old vines used for the regular Rosso.
Score and comment by Ian D'Agata: 94+/100
Full bright red. More reticent and brooding on the nose than the 2023 Toscana Rosso from Forci, but offering deeper, more complex aromas of raspberry, wild herbs, minerals and forest floor lifted by hints of white pepper plus a light dusting of herbs. Sweet and dense but youthfully tight and penetrating, with terrific fresh lift to the red berry, cherry and spice flavours. The aftertaste features noteworthy building length and energy, not to mention seamless tannins. Really leaves the palate mesmerized. A single-vineyard wine, this is an 80% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo Nero and 10% Colorino blend, made from the oldest vines (the Sangiovese is about 65 years old compared to the vines used to make the normale Rosso that are about 25 years old).
A hidden gem from Lucca, not to be missed. More layered and profound than the Rosso, but with the same refinement, freshness, and precision that make Le Forci so distinctive.
