Calabria Rosato Il Marinetto
Producer: Sergio Arcuri
Region and background: Ciro Marina (Crotone) in Calabria
Fourth-generation certified organic winemaker, Sergio Arcuri, grew up making traditional Cirò wine with his father, “Since he was three years old.” Most vineyards in Cirò are just a few meters above sea level, with some exceptions reaching 300–400 meters in altitude. The southern, southeastern, and western slopes of the village of Cirò, as well as the flat coastal areas around Cirò Marina, contain a lot of calcareous material. All six hectares of Arcuri’s vineyards are within this extremely dry Classico zone, cooled by maritime winds, with his highest plots reaching 70 meters in elevation.
The Arcuri family has been making wine in Cirò since 1880, and with knowledge passed down from generation to generation, they now know a lot about the interaction between Gaglioppo and the various terroirs. Sergio explains that the most important ingredient for high-quality Gaglioppo is clay, not visual beauty. Clay is found throughout the appellation, especially deep in the flatter areas by the sea, as a result of the Lipuda river delta.
Variety: 100% Gaglioppo

Aging: 5 months in concrete vats on fine lees and 3 months in bottle
Color: Copper-colored.
Aroma: The nose reveals fresh notes of wild strawberries and citrus fruits.
Taste: The taste is fresh, soft, and characterized by excellent acidity. The finish features a savory salty aftertaste. Rosé with good structure and intensity, ready to drink immediately, but can easily age for another 10 years!
A pure expression of Gaglioppo from Ciro Marina!
Dish pairings: It pairs well with a dish of delicious local cold cuts or fish soups; try it with shellfish stews, octopus, or braised fish.
In short, very versatile.
