Producer: Contrada Salandra
Region: Campi Flegrei - The vineyards are located in the municipality of Pozzuoli, between the towns of Coste di Cuma, Monteruscello, and Scalandrone.
Variety: 100% Piedirosso
Volume: 2020
Vinification: Maceration in stainless steel tanks for 10 days. Further aging in stainless steel tanks and then in bottles
Colour: Bright red
Fragrance: Delicate spicy aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and violet, with a delicate smoky undertone.
Taste: Clear and very well defined on the palate, with convincingly precise and juicy flavors of red berries and dark red cherries that are ripe and vibrant; it’s truly like biting into a crisp, sweet, perfumed black cherry. The finish is long and mineral, with soft tannins and a harmonious acidity that allows the flavors to linger. Delicious now, but with the potential to age a bit, this is undoubtedly the best Piedirosso wine of the vintage. A very difficult variety to grow and to make wine from. I can't even tell you how hard it is to find a Piedirosso wine that is this good (while actually reminding you of Piedirosso). Well done again.
Dish combinations:
- Various meat dishes such as Talgliato manzo with salsa verde
- Grilled or roasted chicken, rabbit, saltimbocca
- Pasta alla puttanesca
-
Eggplant Parmesan.
- Caponata with Tuna
Serving temperature: 16-18 C°
Shelf life: until 2032
Anecdote: 'Giuseppe Fortunato makes only 2 wines: Falanghina and Piedirosso. They are both an example of true terroir wines in all their purity, aged in steel tanks, no intervention in the vineyards or cellar, but what class!'
