Producer:The Sort Cuadra
Region: Puglia - Valle D'Itria (Contrada Carpari)
Variety: 60% Verdeca, 20% Bianco Alessano, 10% Minutolo, 10% Maresco
Year: 2020/2021
Vinification: Maceration on skins. Temperature-controlled fermentation and long aging in a single barrel or silo of 50 hl produce a wine with impeccable technical precision, while the typical characteristics of indigenous grapes are preserved in a refreshingly regional style.
Color: Strong green
Fragrance: The intense nose evokes Vermouth and clearly speaks of the presence of the Verdeca grape variety; nuances of white flowers, orchard fruit, and mint herbs are precise and pure.
Taste: Then very fresh and balanced in the mouth, with hints of buttery toast and hazelnut in the background. Long and fresh in the juicy finish.
Dish combinations:
- Eggplant Parmesan
- Fried fish (such as calamari but also other fish)
- Cutlet Milanese
- Strong cheeses.
- Cacciucco (Livornese fish stew)
Serving temperature:12-13 C°
Shelf life:until 2026
Scores: Vinous 92/100
Generally regarded as the best white wine from Puglia, and rightly so. This is a gem for a very small price.
Scores Comments Terroir Sense: This is delicious and head-turning: 2020 was the first vintage ever made of Silos, a very promising blend of Verdeca, Bianco d’Alessano, Minutolo and Maresco (all local white grapes of Puglia’s Valle d’Itria) that spent four days on the skins and nine on the lees. Still, this doesn’t taste needlessly chewy like far too many skin-contact wines, but that minimal skin contact did allow for greater flesh and perfume. Very, very well done here. Try it, you’ll like it!
