CAMPANIA

"A conclusion we reached after much critical tasting of various wines: has the quality of wines from Campania ever been better than it is now? To be honest, we don't think so."

“TAURASI IS BACK”
And you can take that literally. Anyone who tastes the wines of Contrade di Taurasi will agree with us: this is about the best that Taurasi has to offer. Away from all the internationally hyped wines that have nothing to do with the essence of a good Taurasi wine.

Other Red Pearls from Campania:

  • Borgo di Gete van Reale
This wine is only made in top years (only 1500 bottles). The 2017 can easily compete with top wines from Tuscany and Piedmont. 100% made from the Tintore grape. We were also proud that we could acquire 50 bottles!

Available wines from Campania:

PUGLIA

"But we also found gems in other areas, such as LaSorte Cuadra, located in Valle D’Itria, Puglia."

The Wine Estate of Stefanie Cuadra and her spouse Roberto LaSorte
Stefanie makes only one wine: Silos, a blend of four grapes (Verdeca, Bianco Alessano, Minutolo, Maresco). Unique in its kind, very dry but oh so rich in flavor. Pair it with a Cacciucco (Livornese fish soup) and you are in the 7th (wine) heaven.

Available wines and vermouths from Puglia:

She also makes 2 fantastic Vermouths, a dry and a sweet.

VENETO

Casato 1920 from Veneto offers Garganega wines that undergo malolactic fermentation on the skins, making them more complex than any Soave Classico. I drank the sparkling wine and the 2 white wines together with the owner during a dinner and was blown away. These very rich and persistent wines are also versatile.

Available wines from Casato 1920:

"In addition, we found a beautiful winery in the Euganean Hills run by three ladies: MAELI. They produce a Frizzante, white wine, two sparkling wines, and a passito, all of which excel in their freshness. The wines are made from just one grape: the Fior D’Arancio grape, a sub-variety of the Moscato Giallo."

Available wines from MAELI:

Comments Ian D’Agata: "Nobody in Italy is more talented at getting the most from Moscato Giallo, or to be precise, a specific biotype/distinct variety (it’s not clear yet which it is) called Moscato Giallo Fleur d’Oranger, than Elisa Dilavanzo van het Maeli estate. When you are so good at what you do, why would you change course? You can choose from her Moscato Giallo wines, from the still version, the air-dried Passito sweet version, to the Pet-Nat and the sparkling wine version, and you will never be disappointed."
